Levon Helm and the RCO All-Stars is a 1977 album by the short-lived musical group of the same name. It was Levon Helm's first studio album independent of the Band. Washer Woman Mac Rebennack. The Tie That Binds Mac Rebennack, Bobby Charles Guidry. You Got Me Booker T. Blues So Bad Henry Glover, Levon Helm. Sing, Sing, Sing Let's Make a Better World Earl King. Milk Cow Boogie Kokomo Arnold Traditional arranged by Levon Helm & Donald Dunn. Ex-Band drummervocalist Levon Helm could not have surrounded himself with a more talented group of musicians for his first solo outing - Booker T. and the MGs and Dr. John anchor the RCO All-Stars. But while there is no question that the band can really cook, Levon's homey Arkansas twang gets a little lost in the mix. In general, though, the songs are buoyed by Paul Butterfield's blues harp and the crack horn section, especially on the soulful Rain Down Tears. Levon Helm and the RCO All Stars stopped at 142 on the album chart, despite several innovative attempts to promote the album, including a mega release party and some very memorable live dates with the All-Stars. RCO All-Stars was re-released on CD in 1989, and then again in 2008 as a 2-on-1, paired with American Son. More by Levon Helm & The RCO All-Stars. Dirt Farmer. Levon Helm. American Son. Of the first two Band members to come forth with solo records, Mr. Helm's was inrenor to Rick Danko's. But one reason for that was the excellence of the people Mr. Danko had playing with him on disk, and by all reports his touring band didn't live up to that excellence. Helm's record suffered from a lack of good material and a vaguely rote execution, despite all the stellar talent that the All Stars boast. But it was hoped that in live performance the sheer skills of the players would make for great concert experi
