New album the day is my enemy. The opening title cut, The Day Is My Enemy, combines 10-ton synths with sternum-rattling breakbeats, while the appropriately titled Nasty is a dizzying rush of devilish melody and radioactive production. Elsewhere, the closer, Wall of Death, finds frontman Keith Flint spitting familiar streams of venom over the unrelenting crunch of piston-like guitars and spooky atmospherics. The album title is a reference to the Cole Porter song All Through the Night , in particular its lyrics the day is my enemy, the night my friend , although it is the Ella Fitzgerald version that first inspired the title track. Recorded across a timespan of six years, the album marks the first time that band members Maxim and Keith Flint have been actively involved in the songwriting process. 2015 г. Get album. As a fan of the Prodigy's music since their early material from 1991, I've found that since "Always Outnumbered…" my fandom has been a relationship of diminishing returns. To echo previous reviewers, "Experience" is a classic of its time, "Jilted…" and "Fat of the Land" are phenomenal bodies of work. Since that classic opening trilogy there has probably been one good album's worth of material spread across four so-so releases. While the tracks may work as part of a colossal live stage show, they aren't nearly as satisfying as a home listening experience. There are glimpses at what might have been: "The Day Is My Enemy" has the mighty "Destroy" buried in the track list. With super-tight production, heavy weight stabs, and an almighty drum break, "Destroy" is a throwback to a bygone era of rave, as well as a cracking take on modern uptempo breaks. It's the only moment of genius in an otherwise forgettable affair, but a track i come back to again and again. The album barely rates 2 stars, but "Destroy" is a gem that shouldn't be overlooked.

The next Prodigy album will be an interpretation of the Neil Young album "TRANS"- it will be titled "Fat of our Bellies (babyboom RMX)" .

Used to be a big fan of the Prodigy but not any more. The Omen & Warriors dance were good tracks but the rest of the stuff they produce has been disappointing. Nothing really worth talking about after the first few album's. Music For The Jilted Generation & Fat Of The Land are The Prodigy's best two albums Experience I really enjoyed back in the early 90's but I have not listened to that album in a very long time.

LOL - seems the Prodigy were hyping this solid piece of crap way too hard (what were they wiping off the floor?) : Liam Howlett of The Prodigy Claims New Album Will “Wipe The Floor” with EDM DJs : Miguel Tost December 5, 2014 re : https://www.youredm.com/2014/12/05/liam-howlett-prodigy-claims-new-album-will-wipe-floor-edm-djs/

most of prodigy's new tracks it's like a drill in ur head. permanent brain damage caused by drugs. there's no balance like the '90s. look on the titles of the tracks - they don't have a positive message. it is like - I have fangs and claws. who's the bad man;)?

If Fat of the Land was an application of the sweet science of boxing, this is six cops beating a minority in an alley. Just bludgeoning breakbeat after head crushing beat while his cohorts scream words of encouragement to f*ck the poor guy up further. Halfway through I'm reaching for the Excedrin. What happened to the innovation? This isn't an album to enjoy, it's an exercise on how to start a riot. The Day isn't my enemy...you are.

I think the proof is in the pudding. We are all harking back to the first three albums, they are classics in their own right and are all very much of their time. Prodigy was the standard bearer for 100mph dance/pop music. their live shows were always fabulous. The albums are indeed a little dated but still sound good and definitely have their moments. But times change and the sounds no longer have the same impact. in 10 - 15 years his later efforts will not be remembered in the same vein. that in itself speaks volumes as to the importance of the Prodigy post 1997.If Liam Howlett wanted to cause a stir he should make a dirtchamber sessions Vol 2.I rest my case

Slightly better as an album than Invaders Must Die in my opinion. It's still nothing like their first 3 albums and I doubt anything can ever be. Like a lot of people have pointed out, a lot of it feels recycled and mashups of their previous stuff. But at least it's Prodigy and sounds like Prodigy. And overall I think it's a very strong effort.4/5

sorry to say that, but all of you rating this one with 5(!) Stars have no idea of real good breakbeat music. Invaders and this one just sound like a bad joke. In my opinion there are only 2-3 tracks on each of both actual works right ok in the original manner. The other tracks are just copies of copies of copies... After always outnumbered which was the last least but enjoyable work Prodigy sucks. No Black Jack, no dopefields, no nothing...Superficial, overrated pop music for generation Y.

This band once had a funny video right...and a guy with almost no hair? And they used synths..not real instruments right? Welll forget it.

yeah, then they try to use guitars and "real" instruments and all that rock n' roll shit and began to sound crap...

How to create an album, by Liam Howlett circa 2015:- Take a generic breakbeat and loop it throughout the album. It is important to use the exact same one on all tracks.- Add some Amiga-sounding synths. Just hit a couple of notes, that will do.- Loop some vocal snippet over the whole thing.- Profit.Remember when each song on a Prodigy album had an unique sound to it?

I almost thought I was listening to the previous album when I heard Get Your Fight On. It had the exact same break sample as Get Me To the Hospital.

Another great album from one of the greatest Dance Music acts of all time. Like AC/DC, their sound hasn't really changed much since the late-1990's and that's a good thing (maybe a little heaver though) as when people like Madonna have tried to capitalise on what's tendy at the moment, it hasn't exactly worked!HMS Big Beat Rises again in 2015!!!!

Edit - this regards CD version. Would be interested if vinyl is somehow different. This album is so loud and so compressed that it is completely unlistenable. Basically 0 dynamic range. I had only heard the preview tracks online on my crappy computer speakers - I guess I need to get better ones for this purpose, because once on my reference system at any kind of volume it's just LOUD. Instant ear fatigue - I couldn't get through the first track. I'm really disappointed because the preview tracks are good and I was hoping the Prodigy is kind of back (as other reviews reflect) but if you care one whit about fidelity and listenability just don't bother.Yet another victim of the loudness war - actually worse than the original Vapor Trails in this regard, which is quite the feat.

Amen brother, complete and total gash. Shame some artists totally get it and keep their amazing electronic releases dynamic (Daft Punk, Underworld) while amazing talents like Liam Howlett completely destroy theirs. Mastered at Metropolis, is it any surprise then? They've found a way to make all the Oasis albums even more slammed than they were previously.

Couldn't agree anymore. I have a relatively high-end sound system and my ears are tired as hell.

I agree, the RMS levels on this album are awful. It's hardly listenable. Shame. People need to start rejecting shit like this. It's just unacceptable.
Kiaile

Agreed, Liam probably did this because he wanted to give it a distorted sound, but there's other ways to day that (a good example of something that sounds purposefully distorted but still has good DR is "Come To Daddy" by Aphex Twin). If you shop around on some of the more shadier sites, you might be able to find a vinyl rip, which might be higher in DR.

6 years of waiting for this? imd was ok but this is just awful..destroy is the only track that sounds remotely like the prodigy (probably cos of the omen chime.. why do like half the tracks have omen samples anyway..?)
