Compared to the orignal pressings the photos on this reissue have had their grain removed and look like snapchat filters :(

mine has few minutes of crackle at end of side 2 - makes me think it could have pressed at gzmedia. other than those typical deficiencies have come to expect from certain pressing factories, the record is very flat (suprise), and the sound is pretty good. would love to own or hear the original someday.

I think this sounds great. I have a basic turntable with nice speakers but their is a discernible difference between this and my old CD. Bernie Grundman consistently does beautiful remasters.

Does anyone else think the bass level in "Trying to throw your arms around the world" is way too heavy? It took some serious EQing on my system to have the neighbors stop knocking my door down!

This release sounds very good and the packaging is absolutely beautiful but let‘s be honest: if you already own the original pressing you may skip this reissue without any regrets as the original version sounds great as well.

Agree with your comment. I have both and may sell the reissue. I don't find one to be that much better than the other and with limited room the reissue may not make the cut.

With around 15 min per side, the cutting could be much louder which would be much better. The level of the cutting is something you find on records with around 25 min per side.

Originally released at the height of the CD era, Achtung Baby has been much sought after on vinyl for many years. With only limited edition vinyl releases it has also been very expensive to obtain, until now. Finally! Was it worth the wait? The original CD was pretty good, and still packs a punch, however as you would expect, the vinyl opens up a whole new level of insight across a much wider soundstage. There's a deep and rich bass, and a vivid mid range and for the most part it is fabulous, however sometimes unpacking a dense production style doesn't work so well. So Cruel and Mysterious Ways probably benefit the most, but on occasions by spreading the soundstage impact is reduced and the drums sound a bit thin in the mix. Overall though i'm delighted to have this, and the artwork presentation is top notch.

Missed oportunity, IMO. Most of the songs are congested, the channels and instruments poorly separated. Sonic vomit. It seems like the only track they really worked on is Mysterious Ways. I too have long hoped for this to be repressed as the original pressings are inaccessible. Why do they continue to boast about Berni Grundman mastering when most of what I've heard from them is mediocre at best. This entire album is quality songcraft. I think, U2's best since Unforgettable Fire. They should have stepped up to the plate and delivered on every song on this album. They deserve it. Saving grace, Love is Blindness is also well mastered.

I agree. This pressing is borderline better than the original, and if it sounds crappy on your end, it ain’t the record’s fault.

If you think "most' of what you've heard from them is mediocre, your comment holds no weight with me. Bernie's work on all the Peter Gabriel 45rpm Clarity vinyl releases from Classic Records, the all analogue Zeppelin cuts for Classic using the un-eQ'd original stereo master tapes and his work on the first four all analogue cut Dire Straits albums for WB in 2009 speaks for itself, at the end of the day you may not like every title and some artists will make requests the mastering engineer will follow even if they don't happen to enjoy that (ie - loudness), but the line about "most" and "mediocre" suggests this comment is perhaps more malicious than informed.

Nobody boasts about Bernie Grundman Mastering, their track record speaks for itself. If you find this remastering congested I'd re-check your audio system, something is wrong.

I would agree with other reviews, I have the original U.K. pressing and this is a much fuller sounding record with a lot more overall emphasis, especially on the lower end. Sounds fantastic! And... comes with poly lined sleeves as well as printed! Thank you!

I have to agree - this is a very good remaster and repressing. I have the 20th anniversary JT as well, also an excellent job. Both these two records for me were their really big stand-outs and captured both sides of the band; pre and post super stardom.

Good to know! I've waited for a proper reissue (remaster) for so long. Glad this and Zooropa are spread over 2 lps. I've heard the remaster via Apple Music and it does seem more open...wider soundstage than the original cd. Getting this on vinyl is a no brainer. Does anyone know if the download voucher is for lossless (16 or 24 bit wav) or just mp3s? Hoping for hi res...

Maybe the problem lies with your CD playback chain? I have the original vinyl, the new 2018 vinyl and the original CD and my go to is still the original CD, it's a terrific mastering from before the loudness wars reared their ugly heads and the overall sonics are stupendously good.Just my $0.02, there are plenty of releases I prefer vinyl for, plenty where the SACD is the best, some where even a Blu-ray Audio rules the day, I love being format agnostic. This does appear to be GZ Media not Optimal, perhaps people answered without bothering to look at their records?I don't doubt someone prefers their new vinyl release over the original CD, but to suggest the CD was capable of being "blown away" isn't a statement I can resolve on my system.

Have original european press in nm condition and now the remastered vinyl. same as All that you can't leave behind. fantastic and subtle remastering for vinyl. as mentioned before, clean and open but not too loud and compressed. just as if the "old" masterpiece got a little bit freed from dust so you can enjoy the patina even more. the kind of remaster i really like!!! absolutely worth the money. just a gatefold would have been nice but that's the only thing if i have to say something critical

Hows the pressing quality of this compared to an EU original?
Virtual

I think it is comparable to the original in sound. I had my original on last week and I am playing this one right now. Cons: not gatefold and they censored the back (not that I care, but the original wasn't).Pros: You don't have to pay $100 for the original, it sounds about the same to me, you own the albumI think overall the original and the new pressing are similar. There might be a bit more punch to the latest, but I would have to go and listen to my original after to compare.... its really a toss up for me.
